Mowing Frequency and Mowing Heights
Frequent mowing promotes a healthy lawn and helps prevent weeds and insects, while infrequent mowing causes too much grass to be removed at one time and produces a lawn that looks thin, spotty or “burned.” As a general rule, we never cut more than one-third of the length of the grass at a time. We generally mow at 3 – 3 1/2 inches, because a lawn cut at this height will have a deeper root system, and be more resistant to weeds and disease than shorter cut grass. Mowing at this height gives your lawn an over-all attractive appearance, making your yard stand out from the rest in your neighborhood.
